Since her return from Japan's 2014 Summer Sonic music festival with popular Shanghai group Banana Monkey, bassist and vocalist Awu has discovered new passion and possibilities in Tokyo's music scene. She has since started Smoking Area with guitarist Wanker and drummer Yang. The three members' musical tastes vary drastically. Punk, Noise Rock, Neo Psychedelia, Shoegaze, Ska and more are blended effortlessly in their work. They've created a sound truly their own, delivering frantic energy in their live performances, ranging from tongue-in-cheek absurdity to tortured desperation.
